  2. HIV AIDS in South Asia Prevalence among adults between 15 and 49-year old: 0.9 percent in India, 0.5 percent in Nepal and less than 0.1 percent in other countries in the sub-region. Higher prevalence in some geographical areas and in groups at risks: injected drug users, commercial sex workers and migrant workers, including transport workers.

  3. World Bank efforts in transport programs • Objective: streamline HIV AIDS in transport projects • Achievements: • HIV AIDS components in projects • HIV AIDS and Transport staff based in Delhi • HIV AIDS and Transport database

  4. Project activities • Disseminate HIV/AIDS information to transport & migrant workers, sex workers & communities along project roads • Target behavior change interventions to high-risk groups • Offer treatment, care & support for Sexually Transmitted Infections & HIV/AIDS • Reduce stigma and discrimination through advocacy

  5. M&E study • Assess the extent of M&E in HIV AIDS and Transport components in the portfolio; • Review the literature to identify core indicators for measuring results of HIV/AIDS and transport related activities; • Propose a menu of HIV/AIDS outcomes and indicators; • Develop a model Results Framework

  6. M&E study • Design strategies to strengthen M&E in HIV/AIDS components of projects; • Make recommendations on how to strengthen capacity for effective and integrated M&E systems on HIV/AIDS projects in the focus countries of South Asia Region.

  7. Gender study • Develop methodology and pilot program targeted at wives of migrants and truckers in India and Bangladesh
