Evidence Based Practice • ‘The conscientious, explicit and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions...’ • To do so in a professional or disciplinary sense requires: • Knowledge of current practices • Effective means of evaluating practices • Constant surveillance • New knowledge • Communication of new practices • Promulgation in training, policies and guidance etc • Monitoring of compliance

Network 2: Purpose • This network will provide a focus for research in a range of specialist areas related to the role of the police in the recovery, interpretation and effective use of intelligence and evidence in the investigation of crime and major incidents. This will include the development and evaluation of policy and good practice in the strategic and tactical use of forensic sciences.

Research Aims • Establish current policies and practices in use • Analyse findings in light of current published models and actual versus espoused policies and practices. • develop an understanding of the range and complexity of influencing factors • identify key factors that enable investigative use of forensic science • Develop models, principles and typologies for development of effective policies and practices • Identify factors which may be of relevance to effective use of forensic science in major crime investigations
