IMPROVED MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES Zahari Zarkov, MD, PhD Sector “”Mental Health” NCPHA
The main target groups are the institutions responsible for determining and implementing policies in the field of healthcare. Additional target groups include all stakeholders in the field of public health, including NGOs and the general public.
The program aims to contribute to the achievement of the following results: • Improving management in the field of healthcare; • Improving access to and quality of health services, including reproductive health and prevention; • Improved mental health services; • Specific challenges to the health of Roma population.
Redefined project III “Improved mental health services” Main objectives of the project are:• Improving public health and reducing health inequalities;• Developing policies on mental health and action plan.
Specific objectives: • Collecting real and sustainable information on suicidal attempts and committed suicides in Bulgaria; • Increasing the knowledge of GPs, psychologists and social workers for early detection and intervention in common mental disorders; • Increasing the knowledge of experts from 28 Regional Health Inspections (RHIs) across the country for the implementation of programs for primary and secondary prevention of suicides in schools; • Epidemiological study on common mental disorders in Bulgaria (EPIBUL 2); • Public campaign to raise awareness of mental health problems and suicidal behavior.
The project is aimed at:I. Target groups: • GPs / GPs /; • Experts from the 28 RHIs; • School teachers; • Psychologists and social workers. II. Final beneficiaries: • RHIs; • Patients with common mental disorders and their families; • People at risk; • Students and adolescents; • State institutions, media, civil society
Activities to achieve specific objectives: • Building an online portal for entering information (from 28 RHIS) for suicide attempts and training of experts to work with him; • Creating a web portal for online (remote) training and conducting two-stage training (online seminars) of general practitioners, psychologists and social workers for early detection of anxiety and depression; • Developingtraining programs and trainings for trainers from RHIsto suicide preventionin schools;

The expected results of the project are:1. Ensuring real and sustainable information about suicides in the country;2. Increasing knowledge of GPs recognition and treatment interventions in patients with depression, anxiety and suicidal behavior;3. Increasing capacity of representatives of regional health inspections on prevention of suicidal behavior among adolescents;4. Acquisition of current knowledge about the prevalence of common mental disorders (new database EPIBUL 2) in Bulgaria;5. Increasing public awareness of mental health problems.
