    2. Author’s Purpose An author’s purpose is what the writer hopes to achieve by crafting a particular work. A writer’s purpose could be any of the following: To inform or explain To express thoughts or feelings To persuade To entertain

    3. Author’s Purpose Look at the author’s tone, important details, and controlling ideas, or main points, to figure out what their purpose in the piece is. Ex: If you are convinced by an author to fight for a cause such as breast cancer awareness or protecting the environment, then the author’s controlling idea is that people need to fight for these things. Their purpose in this case is to persuade.
