American / International Schools • Private K-12 college preparatory schools • Multi-cultural student body and faculty • English is language of instruction • Austria, Aruba, Bermuda, Bolivia, Brazil, Cameroon, Canada, Ecuador, Egypt, France, Holland, Honduras, Greece, India, Italy, Japan, Madagascar, Namibia, Russia, Tanzania, Thailand, Scotland

  6. Department of Defense Schools • Located on US military bases around the world • English is the language of Instruction • Serve the students of US military personnel • Belgium, England, Germany, Guam, Holland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Okinawa

  7. Host Country Schools • English Speaking Countries • Public neighborhood school • Australia, England, Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland

  8. Native American Schools • Located in the US, in areas with large Native American populations • Administered by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Tribal Agencies, Charter Schools, Public Schools • Located both on and off reservations • Alaska, Arizona, New Mexico, Washington

Who Can Participate? • Any teacher education major student in good standing • English K-12 endorsement areas: • Social Studies Music, P.E., Art, Drama, • Mathematics Library / Media • Science Speech Pathology • Elementary Education ESL Education • School Counseling Foreign Language • Special Education (limited)

Getting Started… Go to: www.uni.edu/stdteach/centers/int/index.htm • Letter of eligibility from the Director of Student Teaching at your university stating you are eligible to complete student teaching. • A copy of the application that your university uses for student teaching • Name, address, phone, email & fax of the contact person at your university

Getting started, cont… • DoDDS application & results of Criminal Background check (if requesting a Department of Defense Dependents School) OR • Personaland Professional Information Form (for all other schools) • Waiver of Liability Form • $750 deposit • $750 remaining balance due within 30 days of accepting a placement(SCSU pays $434 of this balance)

The Student’s Responsibility • Submit application to: Leigh Martin University of Northern Iowa Office of Student Field Experiences 507 SEC Cedar Falls, Iowa 50614-0617 • Submit all electronic forms to Leigh.Martin@uni.edu • Deadlines are: • September 15 for Spring placements • January 15 for Fall placements

  14. Student’s Responsibility, Cont. • Screening Interview by phone • Exit Interview by phone • Housing arrangements • Travel Arrangements • Passport / Visa / Vaccinations / Background Checks • Submit all academic work to UNI coordinator
