KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS FREE THROW CHAMPIONSHIP Competition This program is designed to have each contestant compete within their own gender and their own age group Each contestant shoots 15 shots at the Council Free Throw Contest and 25 shots at the District, Area and State Free Throw Contests. International champions are chosen an the basis of state-level results All participants can take up to three warm up shots at each level of competition All boys and girls 10-11 years old use a women's regulation size basketball All girls 12-14 years old uses a women's regulation size basketball All boys 12-14 years old uses a men’s regulation size basketball All girls and boys 10-11 shoots from a 12 feet foul line at a 10 foot high basket All boys and girls 12-14 years shoot from a regulation 15 foot foul line at a 10 foot high basket
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS FREE THROW CHAMPIONSHIP Materials Needed For a Free Throw Championship Deadline to order Free Throw Championship Kits from Supreme is November 1, 2013 but earlier is better (Use Form FT-KIT) A regulation basketball court, preferably indoors (Contact schools and recreation centers to reserve a basketball court and set a date and time for the event at least a couple months in advance.) Both regulation men's and women's size basketballs Tape to mark the shorter foul or shooting lines Clipboards & pencils At least three (3) volunteers to man each goal Promoting Free Throw Championships Advertise in local church & council bulletins Display promotional posters in local schools Promote event through local soccer leagues Promote event through local youth groups, Scouting groups and CCD Programs Promote in local media sources, such as newspapers, TV and radio stations Contact schools to explain the program and try to obtain permission to conduct the program through PE Classes
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS FREE THROW CHAMPIONSHIP Program Deadlines November 1, 2013 – Deadline for councils to order free throw championship kit from Supreme January 26, 2014 – Deadline for councils to complete the council-level competition January 31, 2014 – Deadline for councils to submit Free Throw Participation Form FT-1 to Supreme February 9, 2014 – Deadline for Districts to complete the district-level competition February 23, 2014 – Deadline for Areas to complete the area-level competition March 15, 2014 - State Free Throw Championship – Teurlings High School, Lafayette State Winners The 1st place winners at the district level receive medallions and the 1st place winners at the area and state levels will each receive a trophy. The prizes given at the council level competition are at the discretion of the local council.
