TREE SWALLOW Sophia Willis McInnes
Description • Tree swallows are slender bird with pointed wings. They are blue with a white stomach and chest. They have solid black eyes and a brown tail. The males tend to brighter then the females. Juveniles ( the babies ) are all brown with a few blue splotches. • IS THIS A MALE?
Habitat Tree swallows live and breed near water this includes: • FieldS • Marshes • Wooded swamps • ShorelineS • Beaver ponds They live all around the USA.
Behavior • Tree swallows are very social and playful birds. They usually fly in flocks. They like skimming the water surface.

MY PERSONAL CONNECTION • When our class went to pioneer farms for our 5th grade field trip, there was a nest for a mating pair. I didn’t get a chance to see it but my teacher did.

THREATS OF TREE SWALLOWS NATURAL • Raccoons opossums and cats will catch and kill young and adults. • Weasels will enter boxes, trapping the BIRDS inside. • Raccoons are especially dangerous because if they find A NEST THEY WILL EAT THE BIRDS OR EGGS. • Most snakes can’t climb poles but some can. Those will eat the eggs and the birds that are inside. steps to help • We can help by putting out more nesting AREAS • WE CAN USE LESS POISONS OUTDOORS • We can help by leaving cavities in a tree alone • We can help by not touching tree swallow eggs
