Dual vs. Concurrent Enrollment Dual Enrollment Concurrent enrollment • Dual Enrollment is a program that gives a high school student the opportunity to take tuition-waived college courses while still in high school. Courses count as high school credit and college credit. • Concurrent Enrollment is a program whereby a student takes a course on his/her own for college credit only. The student is responsible for tuition and fees and must show proof of residency.

  4. The Benefits of Dual Enrollment • Early college admission • Exposure to college courses • Course grade of 3.0 or above counts as an advanced measure for the Distinguished Achievement Program • College Credit is awarded upon successful completion of a course.

The Benefits of Dual Enrollment • Course transferability (Technical Courses and Academic Core Courses). • Students can graduate with significant college hours. • Students may transfer Academic Core courses to Texas public colleges or universities. • Saves time and money for students and parents.

  6. LFHS Eligibility Standards Must be at least a sophomore. Must have enough credits to graduate under the recommended or distinguished plan. Have an 80 or better in High School English Course to take Comp I & II Have an 80 or better in High School Social Studies course to take US History 1301 & 1302or Government 2301 Have transportation to and from TSTC (summer) Have an 80 or better overall average in core academic classes Have an 80 or better in High School Math course to take college algebra Meet the 90% attendance requirement No failing grades Pay for school supplies required by professor Take COMPASS or ACCUPLACER Maintain at least a C in each enrolled course to continue participation in dual enrollment

  7. Sophomores must meet TAKS + COMPASS or ACCUPLACER standards University Eligibility Standards Students must demonstrate college readiness by demonstrating the minimum following standards:

  8. Courses Generally, a student may enroll in as many as two dual enrollment courses per semester. A student with a cumulative 3.0 GPA may enroll in as many as four (4) dual enrollment classes per semester with the administrations/counselor’s permission. A student must meet prerequisite course requirements before enrolling in a class.

Courses 10th 11th Pre-Calculus (3) – Pre-Calculus Mathematics 2412 (UTB) U.S. History (6) – American History 1301 & 1302(UTB) Business Information Management II (3)- Microcomputer Applications 1301 (UTB) English 4 (6) – Composition I301 & Composition I302 (TSTC) AP Biology (4) – Biological Concepts I 1308 (UTB) AP Government (3)– American & Texas Government 2301 (UTB) Certified Nursing Assistant (TSTC) – Transportation provided. Students may participate in one summer class during each of the two available summer sessions at TSTC. The class choice will depend on the students graduation requirements still to be met. Transportation is not provided for summer courses. Algebra II (3) - College Algebra 1314 (UTB) Business Information Management I (3) – Integrated Software Applications 1409 (UTB) 12th Summer
