Different Types • USB 1.0 • Introduced in 1996 • 12 megabytes per second • USB 1.1 became the most popular USB port with computer manufacturers and the public • USB 2.0 was released • Transfers speed at 480 megabytes per second • 3.0 released in 2009 • It’s speed: 4.8 gigabytes per second
Flash Drives • Portable memory chip and circuit board • AKA thumb drive • Uses power from computer; no batteries are needed • Introduced in 2000 • Floppy discs were made obsolete • Transfers at 64 gigabytes per second • Plug and play functionality • Comes in many designs
