What is Moodle? • Moodle is the website used for all online assignments in Lifeline. • It is a separate website from Blackboard. • You will need to check BOTH Blackboard and Moodle periodically throughout the semester. • Blackboard = for lecture. Your professor will use Blackboard. • Moodle = for discussion class (Lifeline). Your T.A. will use Moodle. 10

  5. You will see this screen. Type in your username & password and click LOGIN. 13

  6. Your username is your e-mail without the @FAU.eduFor example, if your e-mail is jsmith@fau.edu, your USERNAME is jsmith 14

  7. Your password is your Z number with a CAPITALIZED, UPPERCASE ZFor example, John Smith’s password is Z12345678(no spaces or dashes between the Z and the number) 15

  8. After you log-in, scroll down and you will see the list of “Available courses.” Click on your course section. 16

  9. Note that, if you ever need to make up a Lifeline, you can see all the times when Lifeline is taught. Students who have Lifeline on Mondays will need to make-up for the Martin Luther King Holiday on January 20th, 2014. Schedules are also posted outside this door, SC-143. 17

  10. When you click on a section, it will take you to that specific Lifeline class. 18

  12. To access the gradebook, scroll down to the bottom and look on the right-hand side of the page. Under “Settings,” click on GRADES. Click on 20

  13. This is where you will see your grades. At any point during the semester, if you have questions about your grades, contact your T.A. 21

  14. On the home page, you will also see forums, chat, and be able to see who else is logged in to Moodle at the same time you are. This is useful for group projects. All of these features can be found on the right-hand column of your screen. 23

To chat with someone else, click on their name and then click on “SEND MESSAGE.” This feature can be found on the right-hand column. 23

  16. Your first assignment will be to upload a profile pic of yourself so that others can see who you are, when logged-in to the site. To do this, go to www.biodiversityandbioprinciples.com Reminder: Username is your FAU email username. Password is your Z-number with an UPPERCASE Z. 13

  17. Once logged-in, scroll down and click on when you have Lifeline. 13

  18. You will now see your Lifeline class page. Scroll down and look for the Settings tab. 13

  19. You will see the Settings tab on the right-hand side of your computer screen. Click on “My Profile Settings” 13

  20. You will see a drop-down menu. Now, click on “Edit Profile.” 13

  21. This takes you to your Profile Settings page, where you can edit information about yourself. Scroll down and look for the User Picture tab. 13

  22. Click on the gray button “Choose a file…” 13

  23. Click on “Upload a file” 13

  24. Then, click on “Browse…” Select the profile photo that you want to upload from your computer. All pics MUST BE LESS THAN 2 MB in size. Photos larger than 2 MB will not upload properly. YOU are responsible (not your T.A.) for shrinking / cropping the photo so that it can be uploaded on to the site. Your profile pic MUST show your head! 13

  27. IMPORTANT: This assignment will be available to you online starting Monday, January 13th, and is due Friday, January 17th, 2014 by 11:59 p.m. This is because you will not be able to log-in until after ADD/DROP WEEK is over this Friday. 13

  28. Profile pic assignment is worth 1 point. Do NOT wait until the last minute. If you procrastinate, you run the risk of crashing the site. It is YOUR responsibility to ensure that YOUR picture is PROPERLY UPLOADED before the deadline. If you have any questions, e-mail your T.A E-mails from students will be answered in the order in which they are received (first-come, first-served). 13
