Canonicity of Obadiah • Canonicity: • Obadiah 1b-6 is similar to Jeremiah 49:14, 16, 9-10a. • Obadiah 16-18 is similar to Lamentations 4:21-22. • Obadiah 10-11, 15, 17 are similar to Joel 3:19, 3; 1:15; 2:1; 3:3-4, 14; 2:32; 3:17. • Obadiah 9-10, 18, 14, 19 are similar to Amos 1:11-12, 6; 9:12. • Obadiah 21 is found in Revelation 11:15. • Historical background: • See Genesis 25:21-26. • See Numbers 20:14-21.

  6. “The Song of the Exiles”(Psalm 137:1, 7 NLT) “Beside the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept as we thought of Jerusalem. O Lord, remember what the Edomites did on the day the armies of Babylon captured Jerusalem. ‘Destroy it!’ they yelled. ‘Level it to the ground!’”

  7. “The Day of the Lord” • Is a special day at the end of time when God's will and purpose for mankind and His world will be fulfilled. Many Bible students believe the Day of the Lord will be a long period of time rather than a single day. • Amos 5:18-20 is probably the earliest occurrence in Scripture of the phrase, “Day of the Lord.” According to Amos, that day would be a time of great darkness for any in rebellion against God, whether Jew or Gentile. • Other Scripture teaches that that day would be a time of judgment of God's enemies, as well as a restoration to power and honor for those who have faith in and have faithfully followed the Lord.
