All student applicantsmusthave a SEVIS generated I-20 issued by an educationalinstitutionapproved DHS, whichissubmitedduringtheapplicationprocess. Consularofficer will verify I-20 recordthroughthe SEVIS system in order to process student visa application. Unlessotherwiseexempt, applicantmustpay a SEVIS I-901 fee to the DHS for eachindividual program.
WHAT IS SEVIS? • SEVIS (Student and Exchange VisitorInformation System) is an Internet-based system thatmaintainsaccurate and currentinformation on nonimmigrantstudents (F and M visa), exchangevisitors (J visa) and theirdependents (F-2, M-2, and J-2). SEVIS enablesschools and program sponsors to transmitmandatoryinformation to the DHS and DOS throughout a student orexchangevisitor’sstayinthe U.S.
Student VisaF-1 or M-1 Qualifying for a Student Visa Applicantmustdemonstratethattheyproperlymeetrequirementsincluding: • Acceptanceat a school • Possesssufficientfunds to pursuetheproosedcourse of study • Preparation for thecourse of study • Intend to leavethe US upon completion of thecourse of study
