   Snowstorms, Wind, and What Makes Atlantic Canada Unique.
2. What is a Snowstorm? Snow forms when water vapor condenses at a temperature below freezing point. Two factors are essential in creating a snowstorm: snow and wind. Condensation occurs when moist air rises and cools, forming clouds. Snow and Snowstorms.
3. Wind is air that is moving from an area of high pressure to an area of low pressure. At the poles air sinks because it is cold, creating an area of high pressure. At the equator air rises, which creates an area of low pressure. Wind
4. Latitude: Where are we on the pole? Stellerton- Halfway between the equator and the North Pole. Air masses: Large volumes of air with similar temperature and moisture conditions. Ocean currents: Gulf Stream- ocean current from the south bringing warmth to the waters of Atlantic Canada. The Labrador Current- flowing from the north bring cold waters to the Atlantic coast. Proximity to Water: Water heats up and cools down slower than land. Large bodies of water stay cooler in summer and warmer in winter than areas inland. 5. What conditions are necessary for snow to fall? While students might suffer from the effects of the snowstorm, many people benefit. List the people and businesses for whom a snowstorm might be good news. Discuss the possible negative and positive impact of snow on an area. Imagine you are a real-estate developer about to build a vacation resort somewhere in Atlantic Canada.
