A Light for the GentilesIsaiah 42:5-7 and Isaiah 49:5-6 I like the light The sunshine The long days of summer
Light is great Few of us would dislike light One reason we might not like the light Light does “shed light on things”
It reveals everything The good stuff Things we don’t want to know or see The wrinkles The baldness The problems The pain
Isaiah 42 5This is what God the Lord says— he who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and all that comes out of it, who gives breath to its people, and life to those who walk on it:
6“I, the Lord, have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles, 7to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness.
Why would God want us to open our eyes to see every detail? The good and the bad You can’t rejoice if you don’t know how good it is You can’t fix what you don’t realize is broken
This prophecy took place 400 years before Christ’s birth It tells us that a light was coming A perfect light that will… Open our eyes Set us free From prison, the dungeon and darkness
Isaiah 49 5And now the Lord says— he who formed me in the womb to be his servant to bring Jacob back to him and gather Israel to himself, for I am honored in the eyes of the Lord and my God has been my strength—
6he says: “It is too small a thing for you to be my servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring my salvation to the ends of the earth.”
Light is beautiful on so many levels It exposes who we are What we look like Where we are With whom we are And how deeply we need change
So turn the light on! The lights on the tree The lights in our homes Turn on the light of Christ which exposes the cracks, crevices and holes that nothing else can fill
The light of Christ is beautiful because… It not only exposes who we are And how deeply we need change It gives us a way out of that dungeon Just turn the light on and believe
