Learning intention: • Fraction word problems • Adding and simplifying fractions • Fraction story word problem using voki • Objectives: • 1-Read and solve word problems involving fractions • 2- Learn how to create a voki • 3- Develop their creativity • 4- Show the relationship between maths and real life • 5- Use stories in maths to solve word problems.

  3. Materials: • Internet • A computer for each student • Voki.com • Power point presentation • Scrap paper • pen

  4. Activities: After going through the presentation with the teacher and reading the story choose a character for your fraction story. You will be creating your own fraction story using voki.com. Due to the word count limitations in each voki, you may need to do a few vokis for you story to complete it. you can call them: voki1, voki 2 and so on. Include the following : 1- story about fraction (voki 1) 2- the new maths words and the meaning (voki 2) 3- the solution for your word problem (voki 3) Be creative Students will be judged on the story, the choice of the character and the creativity.

  5. One day the fraction ruler called 10/7 held a party and invited all the fractions in his territory.

  6. He chose 3/5 and ¼ to be in charge.

  7. of course 3/5 invited her friends 2/5 and 4/5. 2/5 brought her husband 6/5 with her. 3/5 brought her husband 7/5 and her son 1/5. ¼ came with her family 5/4, ¾ and 7/4.

  8. All the fractions invited were having a great time and they enjoyed the food especially the pizza. • Until they were asked to answer some questions:

  9. What is the name of the ruler ? What is the denominator? What is the numerator?

  10. How many fourths were there at the party? ¼ came with her family 5/4, ¾ and 7/4.

  11. Now 3/5 and ¼ were cutting some pizzas. How many were cutting pizzas?

  12. After that they all ate dessert and left home.

  13. Now it’s you turn to make up a story fraction using voki.
