  2. General remarks • Work at the editorial office is going well • Gerhard Bueß and Eiji Kanehira share editorial responsibilities • Emma Linderoth and Therese Franzén from Informa Healthcare are on maternity leave • changes in replacements make day-to-day work a bit more difficult at the moment

  4. Paper flow • Paper flow has remained more or less constant for the past few years • Board members should consider the journal for publication of their material • Members of workgroups should be encouraged to send papers to MITAT

  5. Survey results • Board members were contacted in June (n = 37) • Should both topic issues and free paper issues continue to be published? • YES (5 out of 5 answers) • Should material for review be sent electronically? • YES (5 out of 5 answers) • Considering the small number of returned questionnaires these results cannot be considered to be representative!

  6. Review process • Board members are strongly encouraged to • review manuscripts as quickly as possible • state whether papers should be sent as printouts or by e-mail • indicate their areas of expertise • recruit additional reviewers, if possible • Contact: elisabeth.hermann-decker@uni-tuebingen.de

  7. Recruitment of additional reviewers • New reviewers would be especially needed in the following fields • Neurosurgery • Otolaryngology • Molecular biology, biochemistry, tissue engineering

  11. Planned topic issues 2009 • Scientific assessment of skills and competences (E. Kanehira, 18.2) • Image-guided treatment of structural heart diseases (A. Melzer, E. Fosse??)

  12. Topic issues - backlog of proposals • Impact of tissue engineering on surgical practice (R. Satava; could not yet be realized due to time constraints) • Nanotechnology update (M.O. Schurr) • Image-guided cardiac valve implantation (E. Fosse) • New developments in uterine artery embolization (B. McLucas)
