  2. In Brazil, CARE and Lyreco are supporting the educationof children in Duque de Caxias

  3. Duque de Caxias in a snapshot: • 20 km from Rio de Janeiro • 1 million inhabitants • 22 favelas • Environmental issues such as flooding • Almost the 10th most violent municipality in the country

  4. Thanks to you 9 months later together

  5. 3 000 children are supported in 11 schools and day nurseries

  6. Through literacy

  7. An average of 20 colorful reading spaces are set-up weekly in schools & crèches

  8. 30 local students volunteered to run 85 reading circles reaching over 1300 children up to 7 years old.

  9. On average, 60 books have been bought and given to the 11 schools and crèches

  10. Children have discovered the pleasure of reading, holding books … and dreaming about a different future,forgetting the violence

  12. Throughenvironmental education

  13. 1750 children played games during 73 eco-nscious mobile tents sessions to learn about recycling, selective waste collection

  14. 3 community gardens within 3 crèches will allow children to learn from observing plants growing and to improve their nutritional intakes

  15. 39 young people have been trained as « environmental agents » to be messenger in the community about waste management etc

  16. Through theatre activities and teacher’s training

  17. Children will take part in theatre activities to learn about their community

  18. 64 teachers have been trained into reading circle methodology
