Diagram PE and KE Kinetic Energy = moving energy Potential Energy = stored energy (not moving) mass and height affect PE *Higher you move the string your PE increases! *PE transferred to KE once pendulum moved. WEIGHT STRING STRING STRING MOVING WEIGHT WEIGHT MOVING Two Types: Gravitational potential Elastic Potential -Increase the stretch The more Gravitational Kinetic energy will be' transformed. decrease GPE

thermal energy Kinetic = moving Thermal energy: is the movement of particles of matter due to its temperature The measure of how hot or cold something is temperature: ↳ measured in Fahrenheit and Celsius and Kelvin -The more particles of Matter an object has the more its thermal energy whe. n the temperature is the same. HIGH"→ LOW Thermal energy: High to low temp Transfer of Heat 3 Types - Conduction : when matter is heated due to touching . The thermal energy will travel from high temp to low temp. , the land pot on a stove high temp = ex. Warming The a lower temp air 2. Radiation: the transfer of heat through electromagnetic waves. infared, visible light) (ultraviolet, ex.sunlight, campfire 3. Convection- The heating of matter that is only liquid and gas . When air or water are heated they expand (heat expansion) Which cause them to lose density when they get cooler the particles of matter huddle together and become more dense The colder more dense air or water moves to the low dense warm air and pushes it in a continual cycle of swishing (aka heat transfer) which are called convection currents - (wind)
Density The amount of matter in a given space. Mass/Volume= Density g/ml Air has density. Air takes up space therefore, has volume and mass. If there are more molecules in a given volume of air, the density is greater. If the molecules decrease then the density decreases. Air pressure is the result of the weight of a column of air pushing down on an area. A denser substance has more mass per unit volume than a less dense one. So denser air exerts more pressure than less dense air. What temperature is denser air? Colder or warmer?
heat rising from boiling water Heat Transfer Radiation feeling sun On your face heat from a heater heat from flame Heat transfer that occurs when warmer less dense air is pushed by colder Convection denser air. (Winds) -Heat transfer That occurs The most on earth lava lamp Conduction
