EducationalRequirements • Most people go to regular college which is usually for 4 years. • After college people need to go to vet college which us usually an additional 4 years and get a bachelors degree in the animal science field. • Classes you need to study; biology, chemistry, nutrition, animal science, physics, math and english. • Once your bachelor’s degree, you need to pass your state’s board exam before you can start practicing as a vet.
Veterinary Specialist • If you're very interested in a particular field of veterinary medicine, you can become a veterinary specialist. • Veterinary specialist’s won't perform the same duties as a general veterinarian. They will work in a veterinary specialist hospital and perform only those procedures directly related to their specialty. • In order to become a veterinary specialist you need to go through two additional years of study.
Salary Range • A veterinarian usually makes about $75,000. • Depending on how long you have had veterinarian experience the more or less money you make • It also depends on if you treat large animals or small animals etc.
Duties and responsibilities • The main responsibility and duty for a veterinarian is to take care of sick and injured animals. • A vet is like a doctor for humans but they are just a doctor for animals
The Future • the number of jobs for vets is expected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations through 2018. • There will be more jobs for vets who can have advanced training and can give special kinds of care, such as dentistry.
Advantages of being a vet • increasing demand • rising salaries • job security • fulfilling one's ambition to work with animals.
Disadvantages of being a vet • Low pay in small towns • Rural areas • Odd work hours • Possible working evenings and weekends and stress.
Related Jobs • Doctors are like vets because they go through just as much training as doctors do and get paid less. Also doctors have to ability to perform surgery etc. • Nurses are like vets too because they still go though all the training but they don’t have to perform surgery. Nurses might help doctors or prepare animals for surgery

Why? I chose this career because I love animals. When I get older I don’t want to become a vet but I thought it would be cool to research about being and becoming a vet.
