5. The Beginning: Organizational Changes & Vision August 2005 – Scott Denicourt assumed the Managing Director’s position at the site
Richmond site had one of the worst safety records in the Pfizer network (2.09)
Site lacked strong leadership in the EH&S role
Accordingly, support from other areas of the site was lacking & employees did not feel management was watching out for their best interests with respect to safety
Primary Objectives
Find an experienced and committed EH&S leader with VPP knowledge
Make the VPP effort one of the primary site objectives & have the vision to achieve it
Target Pfizer Bronze Award for 1,000,000 hours without an LTA
Engage the Workforce at All Levels
Early 2006
Completed initial gap analysis for the site
Hired Lee Evers as Director of EH&S
Invited Virginia program coordinator, Milford Stern to the site and introduced him to the Site Leadership Team (SLT)
6. A Team Is Born Sandi Chavis and Joe Morrell
Co-Chairpersons of the VPP Team.
August 2006 – The team’s first meeting was held
Sandi devotes 100% or her time leading the VPP efforts.
Joe devotes 25% of his time to leading the VPP efforts.
Every department and shift was represented
The team primarily consisted of hourly employees
Management committed 8 –16 hours a month of their employees time to participate in VPP activities
7. From Strategy To Action - SAFE December 2006 – the Sustainable Actions For Employees (SAFE) Program was developed, with an implementation date of January 2007
The SAFE Program was designed to put into action the VPP elements
