What is the Fast Track Initiative (FTI)? • The Education for All - Fast Track Initiative (FTI) is a global partnership between developing countries and donors to accelerate progress towards the goal of universal completion of quality primary education by 2015 • Partners include more than 30 bilateral and multilateral donor agencies • Alllow-income countriesare eligible for technical and financial support from the FTI

FTI Compact • Donors • Help mobilize resources and make them more predictable • Align with country development priorities • Coordinate support around one education plan • Harmonize procedures as much as possible • Partner Countries • Develop sound education sector programs through broad based consultation • Show commitment to education through strong domestic support • Demonstrate results on key performance indicators • Exercise leadership in developing and implementing the program and coordinating donor support Mutual Accountability

UNGEI Contributions to Enhancing Gender in FTI • 2005 study on the integration of gender in the first 12 FTI countries • 2006 revision of FTI Appraisal and Endorsement Guidelines • 2007 review of gender component in 3 endorsed plans • Need for tool to guide partner countries and donors on gender in ESPs

  12. Enhancing Gender Component of National Education Plans • Discussions with FTI partners & Secretariat • Nov. 07: UNGEI GAC organized joint working session with IATT, GFT & disabilities group • Consultancy to develop inclusion framework • Apr. 08: review by FTI donors, then piloting
