1. Introduction • Historyof English education in Japan - 2002~ English education was started by inviting native English speakers - 2004~ 92.1% of elementary schools have introduced English activities in some ways - 2011~ English will be introduced as a required subject

4. Data collection <a teacher in elementary school> Q: Does your school have an English class? A: Yes, one a week for 5 or 6 grades. Q: Do you agree to teach English in elementary school? A: Yes, I think that the earlier students learn English, the better their pronunciation would be. Also, students can develop the communication ability as well because they have to answer “Yes” or “No”.
4. Data collection Q: Do you have any difficulties because of introducing English in elementary school? A: Yes a lot, we already have many subjects which we have to study and teach. We don’t have much time to prepare for new subjects. Now, ALT prepares for the English class but since they don’t have the teaching license, the quality of English education might be limited.

A: It sounds familiar… maybe… Q: Do you agree or disagree to teach English in elementaryschool? And why? A: That depends on the number of required hours. I much prefer working with junior high school students because in elementary school the required hours are very limited.

A: My first concern is that the children aren't bored along with that I treat them kindly and with good humor and endeavor to gain their trust in me. Q: What do you aim for the students? A: I aim for a mutually pleasant, and satisfying experience.
