Introduction • The Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE) • Focus - institutional practices and student behaviors that promote student engagement • Benchmarks - 38 of the most important survey items are grouped into five conceptually related categories of high-quality educational practices • 2nd administration – able to measure improvement
Changes in Benchmark Scores Benchmark scores are standardized with a median of 50.0
Early Intervention • Support for Learners – slight increase in raw benchmark score • Use of services vs. importance of services for students in ATD population - decrease • Use services less often • Place greater importance on services
Increase Group Work in the Classroom • Active and Collaborative Learning – slight increase in raw benchmark score • 4f. Students – 3% increase (37% to 40%) • 4f. Faculty – 2% improvement • 55% spend little to no time on group activities • P/T 52% • F/T 61%
Promote Awareness of Services • 9b. Providing the support you need2% decrease (64% to 62%) • 13.1 Use of services – slight increases in the use of services for 10 of the 11. Slight decrease in tutoring.
Increase Engagement Outside the Classroom • 4g. Work with students outside of class – 5% increase (13% to 18%)
