Some percentages • The death rate in the prostitution sector is 12 times higher than in other professions. • The mortality rate is 40 times higher than for people of the same age. • 9 out of 10 prostitutes on the sector would leave immediately, if they had the choice. • 65% of the prostitutes are raped by their pimp and the customers who force them to have unwanted relationships. • In 2011, more than 80% of the prostitutes in Belgium victim of human trafficking. • 70% of prostitutes suffer from post-traumatic stress. • 95% of the street prostitutes are addicted to drugs. • 50% of the victims of human trafficking are less than 18 years old. • 75% of the victims of human trafficking are less than 25 years old. • In Germany, where prostitution is legal, only 3% to 5% of the prostitutes works independently. All other prostitutes have pimps, and the majority says that their life was not improved by the legalization. • 78% were abused during their childhood.
