New Rules Proclamation of 1763 Britain stopped the colonists from moving west of the Appalachian Mountains, to stop wars with the Native Americans 10,000 British troops were sent to the colonies for “Indian” protection PROTEST: The colonists, for the most part, ignored this law, moved west anyway.

New Rules The Stamp Act A tax on paper and official documents Items taxed needed a stamp to show the tax was paid. EXAMPLES: diplomas, marriage licenses, newspapers….’everyday items’ PROTESTS: gathered in streets, chanted “No Taxation without Representation”, buried tax collectors alive!
New Rules The Quartering Act Parliament passed a law that ordered the colonial assemblies to provide for the British soldiers stationed in the Colonies. Colonists also had to feed and take care of the soldiers, saw this as another form of taxation without representation PROTESTS: Colonial assemblies called for the troops to be sent back to England
