T-489: Induced Activity and Residual Dose Rates • M. Brugger, S. Mallows,S. Roesler, H. Vincke, J. Vollaire (CERN RP) • J. Bauer, H. Brogonia, M. Kerimbaev, J. Liu, S. Rokni, T. Sanami, H. Tran (SLAC RP) • V. Bharadwaj, J. Sheppard,(SLAC ILC) • Motivation: • Simulation of residual activity improved in last years • Better-controlled experiments needed for benchmark tests • Will allow more accurate predictions for LCLS, ILC, etc. • Similar to experiment at CERN with hadron beams SLAC 8am Meeting
Experimental Setup • 28.5 GeV beams, 20W onto copper target inside ESA • Samples close-by, remove samples one by one • Measure dose rate and activity in Building 24 SLAC 8am Meeting
Schedule Yesterday: • I28 charge & rate limit set up by Bob Simmons • Alignment checked: Fine, nice correspondence with 3PR2 • Mike Woods worked with Howard to set up feedback Today: Test samples • Copper at side and downstream estimation of irradiation times • Getting additional DAQ in ESA • Will add “real” samples: Cu, Al, Fe, Ti, TiAlloy, StSteel, soil, water, concrete Later: • Irradiating samples for either a few hours or a few days • Scheduled to run until next Monday morning SLAC 8am Meeting
