How to Become a Bartender • TABC-certified in the State of Texas • This allows you to legally serve and pour alcohol. • The course takes approximately 6 hours to complete and may be completed online or in-person. • You must be 18 years old to become a bartender • You can go to a bartending school or you may start by serving at a business that has a bar and then apprenticing in the bar to learn the skills, vocabulary, and flaring you’ll need to succeed! • Source: Interview with Bartender Melissa

  3. 3 Important Types of Cocktails • Highballs = Base liquor with one or a number of “mixers” • On the rocks or lowballs = smaller volume served in a tumbler or “old fashioned” cocktail glass • Martinis: Mixed cocktails that vary widely depending on establishment • Source: about.com
