Portolano Project: An Expedition into Q: What is invisible computing? A: Invisible computing is where one interacts with computers that are ubiquitously located in a person’s environment and fit “so well into the user’s task environment that it becomes invisible”!
Why is this Research so Cool? • Examples of today’s invisible computers: • Shoe-embedded pedometer • Voice-programmable VCR • Training bike with GPS, speedometer, and heart rate sensor • Computers will • fade into the background • will aid us in everyday tasks • Intelligently communicate with each other • Off-load as many tasks/concerns as possible
