Quick Notes • All the material required to be successful in this class will not be given to you. • You will be required to gather and assimilate material from other technical manuals and/or the web to complete your projects • You will be required to support your team in the research activities covered. • Each team will be assigned and responsible for a removable hard drive to load your operating system on
General Overview of Class • General Overview of Operating System Characteristics • General Unix/Linux Skills • Linux Labs to Supplement • Concurrent with this section – • Teams will be formed • Members should have complementary skills
Teams • Each team will have a team leader – the leader may rotate if the team chooses. • Each team will load and familiarize themselves with: • The lab equipment • Fedora Core 2 Linux • Conduct Lab Experiments and Reports
What do I care what the other Teams are doing ? • Every one in the class will be responsible to material presented by teams in their presentations • Material presented may be seen in pop-quizzes and exams.
What’s with the pop quizzes • At random, I may give a pop quiz on material: • Previously covered in a lecture • Covered in the chapter we are covering today • It might help to read the material prior to class • Presented by one of the teams on some aspect of their operating system
Final Project • All teams will cooperatively develop • A heterogeneous environment where a user on any system may access files, resources such as printers and obtain services such as login validation from any computer regardless of operating system. • More details later
