International collaboration is the key to success in Research & Development (R&D) • Science was globalised much earlier than business • Kazakhstan is a very attractive partner for international R&D collaboration because it has: • Long-term strategy for educating young generation to the world leading standards; • Ambitious R&D strategy to become one of the top 30 countries in the world; • Rich natural resources
Opportunities for international collaboration • Horizon 2020 – the main European Union (EU) research funding • Erasmus+ - the main EU funding for education • Funding by individual countries, such as the UK (the British Council, The Royal Society, Research Councils, The Wellcome Trust) • World Bank • Direct private investment
Funding targets different beneficiaries: • Research institutions • Universities • Private companies • Governmental organisations • Individual researchers (human mobility)
We will discuss some of these opportunities in detail later today.Acknowledgments. Thanks to the National Centre for S&T Expertise for organising this event. Thank you for your attention! s.mikhalovsky@brighton.ac.uk smikhalovsky@nu.edu.kz
