What is child labour? • Definition of child (UNCRC and ILO) – a person under 18 years • Child labour means types of work for which the child is too young and work that harms a child’s well-being and hinders his/her education, development & future livelihood. Defined by: • ILO Convention 138 on minimum age for work (166 ratifications) and • ILO Convention 182 on worst forms of child labour (179 ratifications) • BUT not all economic activity of children under the age of 18 is child labour (inter alia: individual permits may be granted for artistic performances).
