  1. Security Challenges within integrated healthcare ecosystem (s) Introduction: With what many would state is an overreliance on technology that is connected to vulnerable networks. What are the security challenges faced within healthcare ecosystems? Healthcare ecosystems, whose fundamental architecture consists of artificial intelligence, machine learning, SMART devices, and the Internet of Things (IoT) network, present innumerable challenges and opportunities considering technologies like  Smart pharmacies and intelligent hospitals.

Security challenges: – Internet networks: Devices relying on Internet networks can often face adversarial attacks, penetrations and intrusions that effectively make them an easy target & source to access illegally. Commercially available technology now exists & is widespread with dependence on architecture & Internet. IoT devices are projected to grow to several billion in the coming years. The Internet and technology are crucial to the development  of a digital prescription provider. Reliance on digital technology: An overreliance on digital technology may be undesirable as it can result in potential overdependence and may prove to have downsides. Can all processes be automated? Is there a requirement for total integration for the patient during his/her entire treatment/service life cycle? – Over-reliance on data: “The past does not always reflect the future” – It is stated that previous data inputs utilized to train cannot always reflect the future. Hence, are the predictions & conclusions generated previously valid for the future? It is always good not to overreact to data towards predictions within the emerging & competitive context towards developments and a relatively unpredictable future. The data may be purposely contaminated, may have skew, or be highly biased and not reflect the average or natural tendency of the context or market. –   Requirements of expertise resulting in knowledge asymmetry: The data engineering, AI & ML expertise requires individuals with a significant amount of time, training & valid knowledge across various fields. Thus making it difficult to integrate fully with policymakers, management & other stakeholders who have yet to have the equivalent training, knowledge, or expertise. That can open up unforeseen consequences and potentially lead to losses and profits that are not required or are out of the estimated normal. Knowledge asymmetry can result in problems and decisions yielding a suboptimal result. Perfect knowledge is a requirement between decision-makers & stakeholders.

  3. Knowledge asymmetry skews the landscape of collaboration & understanding by introducing miscommunication, incomplete understanding, potential for abuse, fabrications, & even deceptions. Decisions thus based on an environment requiring knowledge asymmetry are bound to result in sub-optimal outcomes.  Consideration of human factors & human error: Within health, human factors & human errors, decision-making can result in decisions that can potentially harm the patients, stakeholders, and healthcare provision. While this occurrence has mostly been eliminated, it is tricky to plan and contain human error & irrational behaviour within integrated healthcare ecosystems; the digital prescription is a supported technology. Network security challenges: The computer and device architecture is a network, so the requisite network security challenges must be considered. The potential for losses and catastrophic, irreversible damage must be considered, especially in the early requirements engineering stages, as investing in and installing highly vulnerable networks that are open to attacks ensures critical failure when faced with dangerous and skilled adversaries.
