Why Is It So Important To Get Under Authority
Luke 7:1-10 • “…..Jesus marvelled…and said unto the people..I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel” Luke 7:6-9 • Why? • He, himself lived under the structure of Authority, and perceived that the Kingdom of God operates in the same way.
PROTECTION UNDER AUTHORITY • GOD ALMIGHTY • 1TIMOTHY 6:15 • What is authority? • A specified jurisdiction delegated by God along with the resources and power to carry it out.
I I God – I SATAN Given Authority I I I Destruction I WHAT IS SUBMISSION? An attitude of reverence in which a person voluntarily places himself under God-given authority as act of faith in the sovereignty of God.
What is obedience? • The FREEDOM to be creative under the protection of divinely appointed authority while carrying out their righteous wishes. • REWARDS: • 1. THINGS WILL GO WELL FOR YOU. Eph.6:2-3 • 2. LONG LIFE – Eph.6:1-3
3. YOU WILL BRING DELIGHT TO THE LORD. Col.3:20 • 4. YOU WILL AVOID FEAR OF CONDEMNATION – Rom.13:3 • 5. YOU WILL MAINTAIN A GOOD CONSCIENCE. Rom.13:5 • 6. YOU WILL OBTAIN A GOOD REPORT. Heb.13:7 • 7. YOU WILL RECEIVE GOD’S INHERITANCE. Col.3:23-24.
YOU WILL RECEIVE THE GLORY OF GOD. “Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward. For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. For what glory is…” (I Peter 2:18-20) • YOU WILL NOT BLASPHEME GOD OR HIS WORD. “Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed” (I Timothy 6:1)
YOU WILL BE GIVEN CLEAR DIRECTON. “My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother; Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck. When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee” (Proverbs 6:20-22)
YOU WILL BE PROTECTED FROM EVIL PEOPLE. “For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life: To keep the from the evil woman, from the flaterry of the tongue of a strange woman”(Proverbs 6:23-24)
YOU WILL GAIN DISCERNMENT. “A fool despiseth his father’s instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent” (Proverbs 15:5) • YOU WILL RECEIVE GOD’S PRAISE. “Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well” (I Peter 2:13-14)
YOU WILL HONOR THOSE WHOM GOD PUT OVER YOU. “ And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you: And to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. And be at peace among yourselves” ( I Thessalonians 5:12-13)
YOU WILL ESCAPE THE DESTRUCTION OF PRIDE. “And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service… These things teach and exhort. If any man teach otherwise…He is proud, knowing nothing…” (I Timothy 6:2-4)
WHAT STEPS MUST YOU TAKE TO EXPERIENCE GOD’S PROTECTION UNDER AUTHORITY? 1. UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT OF THE “UMBRELLA OF PROTECTION.” “… rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft…” (I Samuel 15:23)
The term “umbrella of protection” incorporates several Biblical symbols of being under God- given authority. • “…rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft..”
A person who is involved in witchcraft has given himself over to Satan and his power. • “… Hide me under the shadow of thy wings, From the wicked that oppress e, from thy deadly enemies, who compass me about.”(Psalm 17:8-9) • The concept of a fortress is given in Psalm 31:3 “For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name’s sake lead me, and guide me.”
In Psalm 27:5 the symbol of a pavilion is used: “For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me…” The covering functions of an umbrella are also pictured under the concept of headship in I Corinthians 11:3: “But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.”
Basic concepts behind the principle of freedom under authority GOD-GIVEN AUTHORITY DESTRUCTION You must do the submitting; it cannot be done for you. Your authorities cannot make you submit; you must do it voluntarily.
This also means that you are responsible for every decision you make while under authority. The Greek word for “submission” in Scripture is (hoo-paw-TAHSS-oh). This word carries the old military concept of “lining up under.”
“Wherefore ye must needs be subject , not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake”(Romans 13:5) “Let your woman…be under obedience…”(I Corinthians 14:34) “… The carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be”(Romans 8:7) “Wives, submit yourselves unto your husbands, as it is fit in the Lord”(Colossians 3:18)
“Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward” (I Peter 2:18) “Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers…” (Titus 3:1) “When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up.”(Psalm 27:10)
There are clear commands for you to voluntarily submit to obey authority. In Ephesians 6:1 children are commanded to “… obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.” The word obey is in the present imperative of the middle voice, meaning “you obey”.
