EUMETSAT Metop Antarctica Data Acquisition (ADA) Objective: • To deliver Metop data and products to users (including NOAA) with a maximum 65 minute latency • Demonstration Phase 2011-2014 will support 8 out of 14 Metop orbits • Objective fully achievable during the Operational Phase (2015)
ADA Overview To improve timeliness reception of METOP Global Data Stream (GDS) data EUMETSAT plans to use McMurdo ADA for data recovery Antenna resource shared by JPSS ADA implementation will make use of a ½ orbit dumps from ADA and ½ orbit files from Svalbard (SVL) All files sent via the NOAA Darmstadt gateway GDS data is transferred to Darmstadt for processing then forwarded on to the NOAA Gateway Gateway is also used for GDS and Global Area Coverage data from SVL Dumps at ADA place data at the NOAA Gateway 45 mins earlier than present ADA data rates are expected support current pipeline processing Granules will be processed as data is received via the gateway

NOAA Preparations Thus Far Testing between NESDIS and EUMETSAT ongoing Test and verification ability to ingest ½ orbit files for processing Successfully created 1B’s from the ½ orbit files Currently supporting testing with NCEP Changes to the data stream/data file names will be limited to a new source indicator and a new spacecraft unique indicator MM will be added as a source indicator for McMurdo downlinked data SV will continue to be used for Svalbard downlinked data (1/2 orbit & full orbit) M1 will be added as a spacecraft unique id for MetOp-B M2 will continue to be used for MetOp-2 Identify in the pass/contact schedule for ADA CDA = MM Currently verifying the network bandwidth for nominal and worst case scenario for all data to/from the NOAA Gateway

MetOp-B & MetOp-C Current Status: MetOp-B and MetOp-C developments are on schedule Both spacecraft have been manufactured and are in storage MetOp-B is scheduled to launch April 2012 MetOp-C will be launched 4.5 years after MetOp-B U.S. provided instrument status – For Official Use Only –
