  1. Side effect of using improper prescription sunglasses While your eyes can start deteriorating at any time, you don't want to be stuck wearing an outdated pair of frames with old prescription lenses. Although wearing eyeglasses with the wrong prescription will not damage your eyes, it can cause some very unpleasant side effects that are really not worth suffering through just to save a few dollars on buying new eyeglasses.

  2. How to know You should keep in mind that the first time you put on your new pair of eyeglasses, you will feel a bit dizzy and nauseous. This is because your eyes will need a few short moments to adjust to their new advanced vision. If, after an hour or two, you still feel these negative symptoms, then it is a sure sign that the lenses were not manufactured exactly according to your prescription and they will need to be changed.

  3. If the prescription doesn't match the focal plane you actually need, you may create other issues with your eyesight.  For instance having astigmatism correction you don't need may cause headaches, blurred vision, and possibly even create astigmatism.

  4. The effects naturally depend on what is wrong with the prescription. A wrong prescription can leave you in an artificial state of myopia (when you have too strong lenses as a farsighted person or too weak lenses as a shortsighted one), hyperopia (vice versa), or astigmatism (wrong toric lens). Worst case would be wrong prisms. The effects of artificial ametropia are basically the same as those of  natural ones. Myopia: blurry vision in the distance. Hyperopia: Easily blurred vision near you and generally a higher degree of accommodation which leads to exhaustion, head-aches etc. Astigmatism: distorted, nutating vision. Prisms: different angles for the eyes in order to focus and fuse pictures, can lead to double images.

  5. Can you damage your eyes by wearing the wrong prescription? The wrong prescription may feel weird and it can even give you a headache if you wear them very long, but it won't damage your eyes. If your glasses have an old prescription, you might start to experience some eye strain. To see your best, don't wear anyone else's glasses.
