Layers of the Atmosphere Monday, 3/28/2011
Do Now (T/F) • The earth’s atmosphere is the same as the sky. • Humans can easily travel from one layer to another layer without difficulty. • Humans can live on all of the layers of the atmosphere. • The temperature stays the same between all the layers of the atmosphere. • Because the atmosphere is the sky, weather can occur in all different layers of the atmosphere.
Reflect (T/F) • The earth’s atmosphere is the same as the sky. • Humans can easily travel from one layer to another layer without difficulty. • Humans can live on all of the layers of the atmosphere. • The temperature stays the same between all the layers of the atmosphere. • Because the atmosphere is the sky, weather can occur in all different layers of the atmosphere.
Composition of the Atmosphere Read and Think- Do Now • How does the atmosphere protect life on Earth? (3 ways) 2. What are the 5 layers of the atmosphere starting from Earth? (use yesterday’s notes) • Troposphere • Stratosphere • Mesosphere • Thermosphere • Exosphere
Actually… Nitrogen: 78% Oxygen: 21% Argon: 0.9% Carbon Dioxide: 0.04% Other: water vapor, ozone, etc.
Notes for the bottom of the page: Most of the atmospheric gases are in the troposphere. (Why might that be?) The density of the air decreases as you go further away from Earth.
