Elements of text organization • Title • The heading or • the name of the selection • Subtitles • Smaller headings • found beneath the title or within the selection • Assists the reader with identifying the purpose (main idea) of the paragraph

Elements of text organization • Visual representations • Any illustration located within the text. • Whenever you hear the words… • Photographs • Images • Drawings • Imagery • Snapshots • Visualization • Paintings • Graphic Aids, or the most simple way to think of it is • Pictures • Captions • Small explanations of illustrations • located above or beneath visual representations • Usually uses smaller text and is in bold type

Elements of text organization • Side Bar • To the right or left of an article • Couple of lines that explain what’s happening in the text. • Italics • Cursive looking print • Bold Print • Any text that is darker than the rest of the text • Footnotes • Notes that are sometimes located at the bottom of a page.
