C10 vg1.35 Disk damped? May 30, 2008 T. Higo
Motive force and target for now • 5/27 from Germana • Following an internal meeting this morning we decided to ask you to build C10 damped structures vg 1.35 (two units). As we mentioned at the workshop, the idea is that also CERN manufactures the same structures (two units of C10 damped structures vg 1.35). In total we will have four of these structures. • Riccardo will do the rf design. • For the disk design, we would like to adopt the symmetrical configuration (with rounding on both sides). I wonder if you have experience on this design. Have you already adopted it for some of your previous structures? Have you experience in tuning, bonding and alignment? • 5/28 from Germana • We would like to have your feedback on this issue. • I apologize with insisting, but it is very important for us. We started thinking of the design of this symmetrical disks, and we encounter several technical problems. We would really appreciate to take advantage with your experience. • Higo • I understand the importance but this is not the top issue now. Right? • But I agree it good to think and test to some extent. • I prefer make C10 damped with usual non-symmetrical design for high-gradient test use.
KEK experience of disk medium-damped RDDS Symmetrical but sharp edge. No tuning is implemented. Electrical measurement and feed-forward was performed to suppress integrated phase slip. HDDS Rounding from both sides with end mill tool shaped in negative curvature. Single-sided cell RTOP Rough machining but all curved/rounded. No precision turning was applied yet, tried just after ITRP.
Tuning ? Feed forward for 200-cell case of RDDS1. Is this cartoon what you are thinking? Additional cutting after electrical measurement can be done. If these is a place which can be easily accessed by turning lathe, it is best to be used as a final adjustment of frequency. Difficult in small number of cells.
