  1. Forces and Motion- Big Ideas • Forces are present, though they cannot be seen. • Forces cause motion. • Forces can act to move an object without it being touched. • Predictions can be made based on previous observations.

  2. Unit Scope - 4 Forces • Mechanical - Pushes and pulls • Magnetic • Gravity • Friction

  3. Lesson - Gravity • Students will already have: • Studied mechanical & magnetic forces. • Learned a song and read about gravity. • Demonstrated an effect of gravity. • Made a book about gravity. • Students will soon: • Observe gravity acting on objects at rest. • Compare and contrast magnetic force and gravity. • Learn about friction.

  4. Featured Lesson-Students Will: • Sing a song about gravity. • Discuss why a car fell, despite the force of a push. • Roll cars down an inclined plane. • Measure and compare distance traveled and weight of each car. • Advanced students graph results. • Predict the actions of a third car. • Imagine the best car for down hill racing.

  5. Appropriateness &Differentiation • High interest materials • Sensory motor experience • Grouping gives each child a job • Area for distractible students • Analytical, practical, and creative learning experiences • Extension activity
