The Asian Studies Program at UMBC Presents A Dazzling Dance Drama Musical Extravaganza Hindi Yakshagana “Panchavati” With Subtitles in English The Story Of Surpanakha Don’t miss this sensational audiovisual extravaganza! कर्नाटक का प्राचीन लोकप्रियकला यक्षगान का आनंदलीजिए Yakshagana - depicting Indian epics through song, dance, and dialogue! Yakshagana is a musical theater art popular in the coastal regions of Karnataka. Yakshagana consists of a himmela  (background music group) and a mummela (dance and dialog group in colorful costumes). A performance usually depicts a story from Indian epic poems and the Puranas. YakshaManjusha is a Yakshaganatroupe based in Mangalore, enrolled with ICCR and has performed in nineteen states in India. They are the only troupe to perform Yakshagana in Hindi.
