  2. MAN Diesel & Turbo Hellas Ltd.Newbuildings update. • Greek market trends and update. • Competition • Customer issues • Customer relations in the Greek market • Cooperation between MDT-Copenhagen

  3. Greek market trends, an update. • Low sfoc => “Eco ships” => “Eco Engines”=> G-engines. • Strong preference on G-engines, can fullfill EEDI figures up to a level that will equate to requirements for ships being built in 2025 (Technomar 6600 TEU). • Operating cost (low charter rates, fuel prices, LNG). • Global, regional and local legislations (ECA). • Reduction of harmful emissions (NOx, SOx, CO2). • Available technologies for the reduction of harmful emissions (SCR, EGR, Scrubbers and ME-GI). EEDI 10% 20% 30% DWT

  4. Greek market trends, an update. • ME-GI application, fuel flexibility operation on LNG on all types of vessels (ex. Clean Sky Kamsarmax B/C, Golden Union and Cosco s/y). • LNG bunkering demand and infrastructure. • Historically low prices on newbuildings and resales. • Strong appetite for specific tonnage (ex. 64k dwt B/C, 82k dwt B/C, 50k dwt P/C, 174m3 LNGC). • Second hand sector full of “bargain-priced” Panamaxes and Supramaxes. • High rates on scrap prices (up to 452 usd/ldt Cont, up to 440 usd/ldt B/C).

  5. Greek market trends, an update. • G-engines success orders, up till now 17+2 option G-engines from the 88 orders (total 94 engines) has been ordered by Greek customers. • MR product tankers earn 10 times more money than VLCC, 18k usd/day in the second half of January 2013 and temporarily risen to 23-24k usd/day. • Dry bulk and container market are depressed and dry bulk will remain depressed in 2013. • Expected market to improve from 2014-2015. • By 2012, Greeks committed something over 5 bn USD on newbuidls as compared to the 9,4 bn USD in 2011.

  6. Greek Merchant Fleet at a glance.

  7. Greek Merchant Fleet at a glance. All types of vessels.

  8. Competition • Wartsila X62, X72 & X92 competition to our G60, G70 & G90. • Wartsila gas 2-stroke engine marketed to fullfill Tier III. • Himsen being very aggressive and underbidding on gensets. • Shipyards/designers very slow to adopt Kappel propeller. • Shipyards/designers slow to adopt the G-engine on all types of vessels (draft constraint and propeller not fully immersed).

  9. Customer Issues. • Availability of parts for the conversion ME-C/ME-B to GI engine. • Fuel flexibility of ME-GI to be officially announced to the Greek market. • Efforts in order for the yards/designer to change the design so as to adopt MAN Alpha propellers. • Kappel propeller results on performance awaited from customers. • Quality issues of Gensets in China and Korea. • EGR, SCR technologies, which one to choose? • G-engines to provide low EEDI figures. • DFDE vs ME-GI (approx. 113 LNGC with DFDE).

  10. Customer relations in the Greek Market • MDT Hellas has strong and long lasting relations to Greek customers, which however have to be strengthened: • 1 big presentation, already scheduled for end of May 2013. • 2 smaller presentationsin 3 different locations, already performed one. • Intensify promotion update of the ME-GI engine to all customers with a primary focus on LNG customers. • Customer support from CPH(customer forum 7th March 2013). • Service experience update on ME-GI, G-engines. • Intensify visits of important customers (2 to 3 times per year). • Stronger presence on Greek magazines especially for the development of the ME-GI, new orders of G-engines, emission issues. • Installation of ME-simulator for education and marketing reasons.

  11. Cooperation between MDT CPH and MDT Hellas • Education of MDT-Hellas staff to introduce the new developments in the market together with the relevant presentations. EEDI, SCR and EGR promotion seminar already carried out 18th Jan 2012. • Frequent updates of the promotion toolbox in the intranet. • Quick responses to the customer requests/questions needed. • Improve coordination and cooperation with the offices of shipbuilding countries by taking advantage MARS and not only. MARS order booking is done by shipbuilding countries so as double register is avoided. • Provision of information from the local offices should be constant for all the running projects.
