  3. Hypotheses and Rationale Bivariate A families martial status can display an affect on their households income. Families who are married , typically will show a higher income compared to other martial statuses. Compared to other martial statuses , families who are married have a larger amount of respondents with incomes of $60,000 or more. Martial statuses can be viewed as a vital point in today's society. Whether a family is married or anywhere between plays an affect on all aspects in ones household. Martial status has the ability to impact psychosocial outcomes thru impact of experience. When a person who has already been married, remarries another person in the same predicament , experience from the previous marriages are shared in a benefited way such as income. Hypotheses and Rationale Multivariate When compared to the bivarate relationships , both African Americans and whites display similar data while dealing with martial statuses and income, remaining that whites show higher income. Even though families who are married display higher income for both races , white families contain the upper hand. Despite African Americans and whites are married share a income of 60,000 or more, white people still show a larger percentage of marriage. While racial differences continue to remain apparent in America , African Americans still fall behind whites income and martial status wise. Even though African American and whites share the martial status, it is expected for whites income to remain higher than blacks. In other words it is expected for whites to show a larger percentage of marriage and income compared to blacks with similar information. Race Education Family Income

  7. Bivariate Graph & Discussion Relationship between Family Income and Martial Status Family income Martial Status A families martial status can display an affect on their households income. A family who is married , shows the greater the likelihood his or her family will consist in the high income category. Families who have never been married show the least amount of income within martial statuses. In between these martial statuses lie widowed, divorced, and separated families which each varies from amount of income. 70.8 percent of the respondents who were married displayed incomes of $60,000 or more , when compared to only 13.5 percent of those who were never married. 8.6 percent of widowed families had incomes of 60,000 or more , when compared to divorced families who displayed 5.2 percent. Separated families income of 60,000 or more only stood at 1.8 percent. Salaries from 24,999 to 59,999 within each martial statuses all vary.

As the martial status lowers starting from marriage, the percentage of families with income of 60,000 or more lowers. Families who have been separated among both races suffer from the lowest amount of income. Comparing each martial statuses by race, white people tend to have a higher percentage of families with a higher income. 72.7 percent of white families that are married had incomes of 60,000 or more compared to 56.7 percent of black families who were also married. White families who were never married also had a higher percentage of income of 60,000 or more, standing at 13.2 percent while blacks were 10 percent. Black families who were separated obtained a higher percentage of income of 60,000 or more, coming in with 10 percent compared to whites 1.2 percent.
