  2. Egyptian Museum Database Project • Principal Goal: Build a new database for the Egyptian Museum, Cairo as the principal tool for a full collections management system • Begun in 2005 with Filemaker Pro

  3. Egyptian Museum Database ProjectMellon Planning Grant • August-December 2006: Planning Grant from Andrew W. Mellon Foundation • Team chose KE EMu

  4. Egyptian Museum Database ProjectMellon Implementation Grant • Implementation grant awarded in April 2008 to: • Purchase EMu and 2 years of maintenance • Hire personnel to assist with building of database

  5. Egyptian Museum Database and Egyptian Museum Registrar Training Projects • CMS carried out and new database managed by the Egyptian Museum’s new Registration, Collections Management, and Documentation Department (RCMDD).

  6. The RCMDD • January 2007: ARCE-USAID Egyptian Museum Registrar Training Project begins (scheduled to run to October 2010).

  7. The RCMDD • July 2007: The Registration, Collections Management, and Documentation Department becomes official, with 4 registrars and 3 trainers.

  8. The RCMDD • Today: the RCMDD consists of 9 registrars, led by a Head of Documentation and a Head Registrar, supported by 7 trainers.

  9. The RCMDD: • Responsible for most aspects of documentation and collections management: • Object Information • Object Tracking (Movement) • Accessioning • Inventory • Traveling Loans • In-house Exhibitions • Outside Requests

  10. The EM Database Team • The RCMDD staff (9 registrars, permanent employees of the Supreme Council of Antiquities) • The ARCE-USAID team (the Egyptian Museum Registrar Training Project - 4 trainers) • The ARCE-Mellon team (the Egyptian Museum Database Project - 3 database personnel)

Migration to EMu • March and April, 2008: Migration schedule organized • April through August, 2008: Field mapping and tab design • August, 2008: Preliminary training in Manchester • September 9, 2009: First test loaded, testing begins • February 19, 2009: Legacy database frozen • March, 2009: On-site training • March 18, 2009: Go-live
