Introduction Greetings, faculty, colleagues, friends, family, hiring authorities, and department chairs. My name is Benita. I live in Northern California (Sacramento) with my daughter (Brittany, 11) and my sister (Karen). I have a large family which include mother, father(s), cousins, aunts, sisters, nieces, nephew and son (20). My dad (biological) is a Pastor and I began teaching in the prisons with him on Saturdays in my early 40’s. These were the first of many Bible studies which led to my teaching goal. I completed my Associates in Office Automation in my late 20’s and I began working as a Word Processor for SmithKline Beecham. I transferred to different departments as I gained experience with the company until further education was needed to accomplish my goal as a programmer. I completed my bachelors in science in 1999 and became a programmer for Health Net of Southern California in 2000.
Introduction…(continued) I worked for Health Net until I was pregnant with my second child (Brittany). I was very excited about the delivery of Brittany and decided to become a stay-at-home mom. Everyday was about Brittany. My son, who was 8 years old became my hero at a very early age. He was born 1lb 9 oz. at 27 weeks gestation. My husband nor the doctor believed I was in labor and thus, “Champ” was born in 1993. Today Champ attends college, plays football and works at a local restaurant in Southern California. He is my hero. When Brittany started pre-school, I was lost. I wanted to do something, but I didn’t know what? I enjoyed computers very much. My husband suggested I start a company building web sites, but I “really” did not know how. So I enrolled in the Art Institute of Pittsburgh to accomplish my goal of web site development. I caught on very fast and started my own company “Audacity to Build.” I began building websites to finance my education. One day I was talking with one of my instructors and I asked how she became an online instructor. When she told me, I immediately got excited and enrolled in Capella’s Master’s program in Education. That was it for me! Teaching online, web development! I had an “ah ha” moment. This is my long-term goal and I will enjoy every moment sharing what I have learned through education and life experiences.
Personal Goals My short-term goal is to complete my Ph.D. in Information Technology at Capella University while using my skills, education and experience as an adjunct instructor. My long-term goal is to secure an online instructor position demonstrating my diversity, education and experience in information technology.

Vision My teaching vision is to see that I teach to heal and transform students in higher education to become diversified, learner-centered students. I teach self-directed students and future leaders to discover ways of working and being that are joyful and rewarding, while bringing communities together that result in positive outcomes for our children. I teach students to find their leadership skills to empower others so that we can transform our education system, our society and our world.
Hobbies I believe the body was built to stay in motion, however, I sit at the computer and go to school online. I enjoy learning, reading and writing. I go on walks three (3x) a week for about an hour and ride my bike with my daughter as often as I can. I love to teach. I teach Sunday School to adults on Sunday mornings and enjoy reading the Bible. I love my family members and they are important to my self-esteem, motivation and joy. Most of all I love the Lord.
Conclusion This personal narrative is one of the most important artifacts for my career, lifestyle and future. It has given me an overview of my life and the importance of goal-setting. I have a direction, a purpose and a vision which will allow me to be a better mother, sister and daughter. I hope this narrative provide you with insights about me and where I am going in life. I am always available for questions and if I don’t know the answer, I will find out. The use of the internet has changed the way I incorporate change, find answers to FAQs and a useful resource for vital social networking and career goals. Respectfully, Benita L. Hubbard
