Homework Policy At the beginning of each week students will receive a homework packet The packet is due on Friday The packets are individually created based on your student’s IEP goals The front cover of the homework packet will have important dates/information about school and classroom events Full Credit: Packet is complete Packet is turned in on time Partial Credit: Packet is not complete Packet is late

  5. Reading Milestones Students using Reading Milestones were placed in a Reading Milestones level based on the following criteria . . . the results of his/her placement test previous placement from the end of the 2011-12 school year *Level placement may change throughout the year as your child progresses .

  6. What is Reading Milestones? A reading program that uses systematic exposure to reinforce variables such as . . . Study Skills (oral and written directions) Comprehension Skills (finding the main idea and supporting details, sequencing events, acknowledging the cause and effect, drawing conclusions, answering inferential questions, and making predictions) Literal Reading Skills (decoding, sentence structure, recall events, locating specifics within the text, and sight word recognition) This program focuses on direct and explicit instruction.

  8. Community Events Once a month we will be venturing out into the community to practice functional and social skills that will benefit your child for a lifetime. Some events location may be . . . Frankfort Fire Station/Police Department Dominick’s Post office Bank Restaurant(s)

  9. Transition House Field Trips The Lincoln-Way Transition House is a fully-functional community-based home designed to assist young adults with special needs in their transition from school to adult life.

  10. The Lincoln-Way Transition House has a fully functional kitchen, bedroom, laundry, and bathroom where students will learn and refine skills such as: cooking, cleaning, bed making, gardening, yard maintenance, social interaction skills, and safety skills. Transition House Field Trips

BOOK MOBILE • The Frankfort Public Library will be coming bi-weekly for a visit • Each student received a schedule • Students must have a valid library card to check out books • The librarian are very kind and will get specific books for the kids • All students are responsible for their own library books

  12. The FSP is the Parent Teacher Organization for District 157-C. Our mission is designed to strengthen the partnership between home and school through parent volunteer opportunities, student enrichment activities and fun family events. Some of the ways that we have enriched and supported the curriculum include: Funding for field trips Sponsoring special assembly programs Providing scholarships Providing curriculum enrichment funding to each school Coordinating volunteers for all our events and programs Each year we also hold FREE fun family events such as: Fall Family Fun Night and Creative Arts Showcase at Grand Prairie Exploration Night and Family Fitness Night at Chelsea Come visit our table at Curriculum Night and visit us at www.fsp157c.org to learn more about our organization, our events, registering and volunteering.

  14. Frankfort 157-C Curricular Initiatives

Background: • Illinois adopted Common Core National Standards along with 47 other states • Created newly aligned curriculum in English Language Arts & Math • Old standards were very broad & not challenging • K-12 College & Career readiness • Rigorous skills, reading more complex text, higher level thinking and problem solving

  16. Changes you might see: • New resources: • Many new titles and genres that kids will be reading • Hands on approach to Math where kids will be spending a longer time going into depth with math skills • Kids will be writing more frequently about their reading of both fiction as well as informational text

  17. Grading… • For the 2012-13 school year all three school will report grades to parents on a quarterly basis. • The report to parents every quarter will remain the same with only minor changes in some buildings at this time.
