Aerospace Education Partnerships AE actively working with 5 partners on CAP’s list of 19 • AF STEM Outreach Office • Air Force Association (AFA) • Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) • Space Exploration Educators’ Conference (SEEC) • Women in Aviation (WAI) International Also working with National Association of Rocketry (NAR), 4-H, Boy and Girl Scouts, Homeschool Associations, and FAA AVSED
Aerospace Education AE Challenge • Recruit AEMs and participate in AEX • Began October 1, 2018 • Finished June 30, 2019 • Outstanding efforts by most wings • Results announced tomorrow at general assembly • Began with 3882 AEMs; ended with 6368 (64% increase)

Aerospace Education • America - world leader in economy and national defense • America needs STEM workers • Since 1990, STEM jobs have almost doubled; 9.7 million to 17.3 million • End 2018 – 2.4 million STEM jobs unfilled • Projected next 10 years to grow by 13%; opposed to 9% non STEM • STEM pays more – BA - $20,000 more; MA - $25,000 more; PhD - $30,000 more • U.S. – 38/71 countries in math; 24th in science • Only 36% of high school grads are ready to college-level science classes • CAP has a part to play – provide products & programs to excite cadets/kids about possible STEM careers

Aerospace Education Aerospace Connections in Education (ACE) • K-6 program • 21 grade-specific lesson plans • Covers academics, character education & physical fitness revolving around AE theme • School Year 2018 - 51,170 students, 344 schools, 920 teachers, 47 states, plus PR, Europe & Japan • Great introduction to CAP and AE • Great precursor for cadet programs
Aerospace Education Aerospace Education Members (AEMs) • Special membership category - $35 • Don’t wear CAP uniforms • Don’t attend squadron meetings on routine basis • Instead, promote AE/STEM in classrooms • Use our AE products and programs • Expand our outreach and impact • In-kind free renewals
Aerospace Education Aerospace Education Excellence (AEX) Program • Been around almost 20 years • Hands-on activity program • Apply and participate by conducting hands-on AE activities • Conduct 6 activities, plus 2-hr AE Day, within the year • Receive participation certificates upon completion
Aerospace Education Teacher Orientation Program (TOP) Flights • Now Air Force Approved Mission (AFAM) • Pilots must be mission qualified • DAE/AEO coordinates with teachers • DAE/AEO coordinates with wing DO • Flights similar to cadet o’flights • Flights paid for with appropriated dollars
Aerospace Education STEM Kit Program • Began FY13 • Developed kits, found vendors, distributed to members • Started with 5, now have 14 • Filled over 11,000 orders; sent over 22,000 kits • 98% squadrons have at least 1 kit; 85% have at least 2; 60% have at least 3 • 80% youth more interested now in AE/STEM careers • Reached over 700,000; cost $3 per youth • FREE & KEEP
Aerospace Education STEM Kit Program • Currently closed for program management and restructuring • Reopens Sept 1, 2019 • New kits – Cross-country navigation; AngLegs; Build & Learn Geometry; Kano • Two under consideration: virtual reality goggles and wind tunnel • New application and evaluation forms • Pre/Post tests • 5 lesson plans per kit • LMS – contains policies, procedures, application, evaluation, curriculum, certificates, etc….
