Highlight of Current Activities (1) • TIA’s ongoing domestic standards activities encompass: • User Premises Equipment and Wiring Systems and Components • TR-41, TR-42, and FO-4 • Satellite Communications • TR-34 and TR-47 • Fixed Wireless and Mobile Communications • TR-8, TR-14, TR-45, and TR-47 • Fiber Optics • FO-4 • Intelligent Transport Systems and Vehicular Telematics • TR-48 and ISO TC204 TAG • Healthcare • TR-49 • Multi-Media Access, Protocols and Interfaces • TR-30 • TIA is a collaborative organization with procedural and institutional connections with many other organizations and SDOs worldwide • TIA manages more than 70 committees, including serving as Secretariat for 3GPP2 and several TCs and TAGs
Highlight of Current Activities (2) • The 2008-2009 TIA Standards and Technology Annual Report (PDF at tiaonline.org ) 60-page summary of the committees and standards activities • Includes the International activities administered by TIA. • 2009 TIA Industry Playbook highlights ICT market and driving policies • 2009 ICT Market Review & Forecast projects trends 4 years out • EIATRACK (eiatrack.org) is TIA’s global information service tracking environmental regulations for RoHS, WEEE, REACH, EuP, energy efficiency, dfE • CTP, TIA’s vendor-neutral convergence certification programs for individuals to validate standards-based knowledge in convergent technologies • TIA unveiled logo for telephones that meet the latest hearing-accessibility Standard • New ICT Industry Glossary includes TIA Standards terms http://www.tiaonline.org/market_intelligence/glossary
Strategic Direction TIA • Lobbies for appropriate regulation and removal of barriers to ubiquitous deployment of broadband networks • Promotes free-trade agreements • Advances technology neutrality • Facilitates going “Green” using intelligent transportation systems, energy efficiency, virtual events and other environmental initiatives; 2009 ICT Market Review & Forecast includes new Green addendum
SDO Challenges • Current economic conditions • With Market Convergence – also see the need to: • strengthen existing cooperation agreements and • consider increased joint cooperation with other organizations in developing standards, conformity assessment, and related areas. • More companies are restricting travel, thus TIA is exploring supplemental virtual meetings.
Changes since GSC-13 • TIA instrumental in obtaining $7.2 billion for broadband spending in current U.S. Government’s Stimulus Package • Roadmap for companies seeking funding on TIA Website
Other TIA Activities since GSC-13 • TIA IPR SC has met several times • A detailed report will be given to GSC IPRWG • Seeks Reaffirmation of the three GSC IPR Resolutions • TIA released “Open Standards” Paper and filed it with EU, India, etc. • Filed Comments with OMB on NTTAA • Filed Survey Comments on Standards System in USA • Produced 4 White Papers on environmental regulation for electronics products • North America, Latin America, Europe, and Asia regions
