A Little History “Kids, Crime and Care” : “That every school in British Columbia assign a single staff person to oversee education planning, monitoring and attainments of the children in care that attend their school. This function should be in place and functioning by September 2009.”
A Little History Response: • A person appointed in each school (Sept 2009) • List of children under Continuing Custody Orders and their provincial assessment data sent to each school (September 2009) • Lists were updated locally • Secure wiki established http://children-in-care.wikispaces.com/
A Little History Response: • Report on progress included in 2009 Superintendent’s reports ( Dec 2009) • Superintendent of Achievement visits • Updated list sent to districts (Feb 2010) • Webcast ( June 2010) http://bcelc.insinc.com/supportingstudentsincare/20100615/
What's Next? • Data collection • Spread the net • Improve supports • Go to scale
Personalized Learning Imagine an education system……. • Recognizes and responds to the uniqueness of every single learner • Flexibility in where, when, and how learning takes place • Parents are effectively engaged in their child’s learning • Teachers are facilitators of learning • Supported by technology • Focused on student outcomes rather than system inputs
