DEMONSTRATING THE LECSHARE WIZARD EASI: Equal Access to Software and Information uses LecShare to repurpose PowerPoint presentations into Web pages to use in our Webinars
WHAT DOES LECSHARE DO? LecShare Pro converts Microsoft PowerPoint to: • Accessible HTML • QuickTime Movies • Video Podcasts • Microsoft Word Handouts • LecShare Lite does not include audio capability but makes accessible HTML • Demo versions are also available
FIRST CREATE A POWERPOINT • Plan to communicate not to dazzle • Keep the layout and language simple • Use good color contrast • Use the software markup features rather than customizing the presentation
STARTING LECSHARE • LecShare assumes you already have created a PowerPoint • Start LecShare and select the option to open a PowerPoint • LecShare imports the PowerPoint and provides a slide tray showing the accessibility features or problems with each slide
SCREEN SHOT REPAIRING TITLE • Focus on slide 5 and in the slide objects window • Click on the Slides Title • On the Title Accessibility Editor input a title and click on ‘ok’
SCREEN SHOT ADDING ALT TEXT • Focus on slide 2 which is missing alt text for the image. Click on that in the slide object window and type text in the edit box that appears and click on ‘ok’ • When you add the ‘Alt’ attribute to an image, you can decide to save it or not into the original power point before exporting the presentation • Before proceeding to export, save your work or the repairs will be lost
EXPORTING TO ACCESSIBLE HTML • Click on export • Adding the export options • Check Web • Click on options • Click on export again • The index file in the folder is where the accessible Web presentation starts

STARTING TO ADD AUDIO TO YOUR PRESENTATION • Import the PowerPoint • Be sure that it passes the accessibility standards in the slide tray • Go to the audio menu and be sure the settings seem OK • Now you are ready to record!
NOW LETS START RECORDING The recording interface contains: • lecturer's notes play record accessibility notes audio and the slide tray • Click on audio and you are ready to make a recording. • Click on record and the record button is replaced by a stop button and your computer has started to record.
CONTINUING RECORDING • When you finish the audio for slide 1, click on stop. You can then play it. You can click on record which will let you make a new recording replacing the previous one. • Now go to the slide tray on this display and put your cursor on the next slide and follow the same steps to make a recording for all the remaining slides
CREATE HTML WITH AUDIO • When you start to export, you must save the LecShare or the repairs and audio are lost • Fill in any extra meta data • Check the HTML item and click on options to make your choices • Final finish exporting to HTML audio
EXPLAINING THE OUTPUT FILES • LecShare will create a directory entitled ‘HTML’ • It contains several folders and a index.htm file • When you display it using a browser, it will include buttons for changing slides and for playing the audio giving the user control of the display

STARTING TO CREATE A MOVIE • This assumes that both the slides and audio are already created and accessibility problems have been fixed • Again save a LecShare version including audio before exporting • Fill out any relevant meta data • Select to create QuickTime or MP4 versions and finish exporting
CREATING QUICKTIME MOVIE ETC. • This assumes the slides and audio are created and accessibility problems have been fixed • Again save a LecShare version including audio before exporting • Fill out any relevant meta data • Select to create QuickTime or MP4 versions and finish exporting
QUICKTIME MOVIE OUTPUT • We saved to embedded QuickTime which created a Web page a ‘mov’ file ending in ‘.htm’ • When displaying it, there were also accessible controls for play, pause, fast forward and rewind
PROVIDING A TRANSCRIPTION FOR AUDIO • In all the export options for Lecshare one of the choices is to show the speaker’s notes • If the presentation contains audio, the notes could include a transcription or even a paraphrase • This is a simple way to provide the equivalent of captions
RESOURCES • LecShare is available online as a demo or to purchase at:http://lecshare.com • EASI gave an hour-long Webinar on LecShare, and it is online at: http://easi.cc/archive/lecshare.htm
