  5. Highest temperatures in recorded history Rising temperatures may become self-sustaining

  6. Warming seas will trigger the release of stored CO2 in the ocean floors Polar ice caps in the Arctic are reduced in size and reflect less solar energy into space

  7. Overpopulation Too many of us, using too many resources, too fast. Nature has become a resource

  8. Current Sunlight Vs Ancient Sunlight

  9. Sunlight that fell was the maximum amount that could be used. Population never exceeded 1 billion people

  10. Then small pockets of “ancient sunlight” were discovered. Population grew exponentially to…? today

  11. Excessive Consumption Consumption isn’t bad, it’s just way out of balance. Americans spent more on lawns than India collected in taxes!

  12. Biodiversity Loss Extinction is a natural part of life…But we are speeding up the process

  13. Humans are at the top of the food chain which makes us very vulnerable. We don’t know at what point it will all fall apart.

  14. “Green Design” Living sustainably does not mean moving into shacks and growing our own food. It’s difficult to superimpose a design on what already exists.

  15. It doesn’t have to look different. It’s invisible, it’s just the internal mechanisms and performance that’s different.

  16. Bio-mimicry Adopting similar mechanisms to those seen in nature. Example of Kevlar vs a Spider

  17. Renewable Energy solar power, wind, hydropower etc. The technology is there, it’s developed and usable and efficient Can’t tell someone they’re doing the wrong thing, decision is theirs.

  19. Community Action Simple changes DO make a difference. Movement toward wiser use of resources.
